DCJ Presides Over Swearing-In Ceremony of ULC Members

The Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of two members of the Uganda Land Commission (ULC).

The two members; Mr Tom Fisher Kasenge and Hajjat Madina Nsereko were reappointed for their second five-year term recently by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The DCJ noted that the appointment of the two members was timely considering the high rate of land wrangles. "Many citizens are suffering due to illegal evictions, forged lease offers, forged land titles and issuance of titles in wetlands and protected areas," he said.

The Deputy Chief Justice informed them that it is their duty to do God's will and that they must repel any temptation of corruption, sectarianism, favoritism and ensure that the decisions that are made are the right ones, guided by the law that they have sworn to follow and uphold.

Mr Augustine Rukiika Bujara, a Commissioner at the Land Commission who delivered remarks spoke on behalf of the Chairperson Land Commission, said the ceremony was a testament of the confidence the Head of State has put in the newly sworn in members to serve the people of the of Uganda. He urged them to take the Oath that they have made seriously and live by it.

Mr Rukiika said that the Land Commission promises to improve on the service delivery and also improve on the working relationship with all Ministries.

He emphasized that as a Commission they do not take only board decisions but also touch the ground and reach out in areas where it is necessary.
